Proverbs 26

21 Emotions tend to magnify under stress. When a quarrelsome man finds himself in a stressful situation he will become defensive, argue, and pass out blame to other people, which only increases the entire problem. A person who likes to argue can turn a petty disagreement into a fight or even murder.
28 A person who lies cares only for himself, and does not care at all about those who suffer because of lies.

Flattery may be true or false, but the objective is to manipulate others. There are two ways flattery might lead to ruin. First, the recipient might be persuaded to do something wrong because of flattering words. Second, the manipulator might be exposed and be brought to ruin by public humiliation.
