Deuteronomy 5

6 Please refer to the commentary on Exo 20.
14 In this version God does not specifically comment on the six days of creation (Exo 20:11), but it is still assumed in the phrase "Sabbath of the Lord your God."
15 God does add a comment about why servants should be given a Sabbath rest. Most of the Israelites by this time only had childhood memories of their enslavement, but their heritage would always be one of slaves that God set free. In light of this they were not to be like their oppressive taskmasters. Instead, they were to allow their servants to have rest one day a week in keeping with God's model work week set at the time of Creation.
