Acts 8

1 Saul was very zealous about the sanctity of the Temple and the Jewish traditions. Denying the truth of Stephen's accusations, he generated a religious hysteria against what Stephen said and against all those who believed such things. The divide between Jew and Christian began in earnest that day as the zealous Jews attempted to purge those who believed in Jesus from their midst. They could not see at the time the effects of their actions. Instead of snuffing out Christianity, they forced it to spread. Christians who fled Jerusalem did not keep their faith secret. Instead, they openly proclaimed it wherever they went.
